Discriminatory credit card fees for ticket buyers

When ordering a ticket online, buyers often find themselves in a tight spot. Although they are offered all payment options, unnecessary charges appear when paying - just for using a credit card. Since the introduction of the "non-discrimination clause" on 1 August, customers who pay with their card should not have to pay a surcharge. Despite this, many ticket buyers are still paying too much.

According to the Price Disclosure Ordinance (PBV), a provider must sell its goods at the advertised price. This also applies to the ticketing sector - the customer must be able to buy their ticket at the advertised price without having to pay unauthorised additional fees such as print@home or credit card surcharges.

At the same time, it was also decided on 1 August that card companies may reinstate the so-called "non-discrimination clause" in their rules. This means that paying by credit card may not be more expensive than other means of payment. However, this has had little effect so far.

TICKETINO is looking forward to this new provision. As the company has focussed on a fair and transparent pricing policy from the outset, no changes need to be made to the pricing policy.

For Franz Wyss, CEO of TICKETINO, this regulation is a step in the right direction: "Time and again, hidden fees and surcharges have meant that ticket buyers have not been able to compare the fees incurred transparently and have been misled when choosing a provider. At TICKETINO, all fees are and have always been included in the price. Discriminatory surcharges for credit card payers or other hidden fees are foreign words for us, as we stand for a fair and transparent market. We now hope that our competitors will finally follow suit."
