Attack on top dog TC

The ticket broker TICKETINO sometimes offers better conditions than its big competitor and advertises this. The market leader reacts irritably and threatens to sue.

TICKETINO is a young provider in the Swiss ticket sales market. It has been trying to gain a foothold for three and a half years - among other things by offering better conditions than the competition. To draw attention to this, TICKETINO occasionally takes offence - especially against market leader Ticketcorner. For example, a press release from the end of November stated: "The anger of ticket buyers about Ticketcorner's horrendous surcharges has long been known and is more than understandable." A year ago, Ticketcorner did indeed introduce a fee for purchasing tickets online via the Internet. This was followed in mid-2011 by fee increases for ticket purchases in advance booking offices (TA of 14 November). Ticketcorner argues that it is only copying what its competitors have already introduced.

This is partly true, but not in the case of TICKETINO. Print@home, where tickets can be purchased online and printed out on your own device at home, is still free of charge. And while Ticketcorner charges between CHF 1.50 and CHF 12 (per order) depending on the order value, TICKETINO charges between CHF 0.50 and CHF 5 (per ticket). This is why TICKETINO also claims: "More and more event organisers are turning away from Ticketcorner and switching to the cost leader TICKETINO."

Such statements, but also recently published price comparisons, annoy the top dog. For example, TICKETINO put the prices of both providers online for a two-day ticket including insurance for the ski jumping event in Engelberg. At Ticketcorner, the ticket cost CHF 56.50 or 11 per cent more via Print@home than at TICKETINO and CHF 62.80 or 23 per cent more by post. Ticketcorner did not respond to an enquiry by TA regarding the correctness of these prices.
