Interview with TICKETINO CTO Patrick Walgis

Patrick Walgis has put his heart and soul into TICKETINO since it was founded. He and his development team make TICKETINO possible in the first place.

Where and by whom was the TICKETINO platform developed?

Patrick Walgis: We developed the platform ourselves and it was created entirely by TICKETINO employees. The processes are automated and tailored to our needs so that we can offer organisers attractive prices for our services.

What was the basic idea?

We quickly realised that event organisers were looking for a self-service platform on which they could sell tickets easily and cheaply.

Admission control is always a challenge at many events. What can we expect from TICKETINO in this area in the near future?

We presented the platform-independent TICKETINO Scan app three years ago. The app was used extensively by countless event organisers and was also used on professional scanners at major events. We have noticed that many event organisers appreciate the independence from technical equipment and will therefore be launching the new TICKETINO Scan app for Android and iOS at the start of 2017. The new app will make smooth admission control via any smartphone even easier. Every event organiser can scan with several smartphones at the same time if there is a high volume of people. The data is automatically synchronised as soon as the smartphone has reception.

With over 65,000 successfully completed events and double-digit growth year after year, what big things can you expect this year?

More than three years ago, we created a mobile shop to complement the TICKETINO desktop shop solution. More and more customers are ordering via mobile devices such as smartphones or tablets. Today, almost 50% of ticket buyers come via these channels. The two existing shops will be integrated into a new responsive solution at the beginning of 2017. The new shop will allow ticket buyers to purchase tickets easily via smartphone, tablet or desktop and promises not only a better display but also optimised performance.

What are the advantages for ticket buyers and organisers?

The design, user-friendliness and speed will be optimised, leading to even more satisfied ticket buyers. Furthermore, the events on the new platform are better structured for search engines and can therefore be found even more easily. Various affiliate channels can be integrated and the events are presented even better. We are also convinced that the design of the new shop is appealing and can ultimately be better integrated into the websites of event organisers. Personally, I'm really looking forward to launching the new shop.

Are you now also the marketing director?

No, but our plans are cross-divisional and the possibilities for marketing events are also changing with digitalisation. Many business areas are now at least partly a question of software development.
